Every year, bookstores, libraries, universities, and organizations host engaging programs that spotlight censorship. Are you hosting an event for Banned Books Week? Putting up a display? Let us know about it, and we’ll share it here for the world to find!

If you are organizing a virtual event, choose “Virtual Event” for the venue. If it is an in-person event, please provide complete address and time information, as well as contact information so we can send queries for clarification. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee your event will display correctly. Thank you!

Watch Party: “Scary Stories” Documentary
Censorship is scary. In honor of Banned Books Week, join the American Library Association for a national watch party of “Scary Stories,” a documentary that digs into the history and impact of the banned book “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” by Alvin Schwartz.
Learn more about how to stream the film for free, or host your own watch party: ala.org/bbooks/scarystories. Share your thoughts leading up to and during the film with the hashtag #CensorshipisScary.
We’ll post a link to our the ALA watch party Friday night on the Facebook event, limited to the first 100 attendees. Have a frighteningly good time after the film by joining us on the Banned Books Week YouTube channel for a Q&A with the director, Cody Meirick, at 7:45 p.m. CST.
Learn more about the documentary at scarystoriesdoc.com. Starring: R.L. Stine, Alvin Schwartz, Q.L. Pearce, Amelia Cotter, Bruce Coville
